Research Assistant Position Available at ITAM (Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico): “A general optimizer of cutting and packing operations for production planning in small to medium size manufacturing companies” The researcher will be working with Dr Marta Cabo in the above project funded by The Royal Society (U.K.). The project involves the development of algorithms that will be applied to solve cutting and packing problems. This is a joint project with Prof Julia Bennell from the University of Southampton (U.K.). No previous experience with cutting and packing problems is necessary, as the successful candidate will be trained. As part of the training, stays at the University of Southampton are offered under the supervision of Prof Julia Bennell. The researcher will also be involved in the organization of seminars and workshops, attendance to international conference, as well as invited to teach one or two courses at the Department of Mathematics at ITAM. Candidates should ideally have: - PhD in Mathematics, Engineering or Computer Science, with focus on operational research. - Strong experience in programming (C, C++ or similar) - Good level of English is desirable. The duration of the contract is 2 1/2 years, with the possibility of extending it extra 6 months, starting in January 2017.
