Finite Elements on anistropic meshes
Finite Element Methods (FEM) are used to approximate solutions of (partial) dierential equations. The field of applications is wide, for example, membrane equations, plate equations, fluid flow problems, etc. However, a good quality of the approximation is in general only guaranteed for isotropic meshes. This is the most common limitation of such methods. We start this talk gently with a denition of such meshes and methods. Then, we dive into what happens when this condition is violated.
